P.U.P.S. Requirements
Practicing Until Properly Socialized - Therapy Dogs
In-Training
We at
are very excited to offer our new P.U.P.S. in-training program especially
designed for young pups preparing to becoming Therapy Dogs! We do,
however, have the following special requirements and visitation rules
specific to this program. Please feel free to contact

Requirements:
- Dogs
must be at least nine (9) months old.
- Handlers
must be at least 18 years of age.
- Dogs
must have completed one (1) formal obedience class.
- Dogs
must have completed all vaccination series.
- The
P.U.P.S. Team must attend our
Introduction to Becoming a Therapy Dog Team Workshop prior
to making visits.
Visiting:
- While
in-training, P.U.P.S. Teams will be required to make on-going visits
to one (1) facility for the first six (6) months and must wear the
in-training ID
tags on all visits.
- All
visits should be documented on the visitation
log form and submitted at the end of the six (6) month training
period.
- Facility
director, recreation or activities director will complete a monthly
evaluation of the P.U.P.S. team during this six (6) month period.
- When
the dog becomes a year old and has successfully completed six (6)
months of documented visits, the P.U.P.S. Team membership will be
converted to Active Therapy Dog Team status and the team will receive
a therapy dog
certification and a registered therapy dog ID tag.
